What are the Common types of Garden Lime?

Two types of lime are commonly used in lawns and gardens, agricultural lime and dolomitic lime.

  • Agricultural lime, also sold as garden lime, is made from Limestone which mainly consists of two types of minerals; namely, calcite and aragonite.
  • Dolomitic lime is made from dolomite, also a carbonate mineral, but is made of ‘calcium magnesium carbonate’ instead of pure calcium carbonate material. Dolomite is sometimes called a double carbonate rock.
